KILLER TOMATO RECIPES THE CONTEST RESULTS ARE IN. WHAT'S THE KEY TO A WINNING TOMATO DISH? A RECIPE THAT'S EASY AND FLAVORFUL.

AN EIGHT-STEP strategy for eating a home-grown tomato wasn't among the winners. But a quick tomato tart was.

Killer Tomato Recipes are easy, flavorful and require slightly more skill than pulling the fruit off the vine. At least that's what the judges decided when picking winners for the Killer Tomato Recipe Contest, co-sponsored by WHRO TV-15, Bouillabaise and The Virginian-Pilot.

George Geddes of Virginia Beach garnered first place with his recipe for Chicken and Fresh Tomatoes. George will receive a Bouillabaise garden bag filled with a T-shirt, a Four-Star Henckle tomato knife, a copy of ``Cooking Secrets of the CIA (Culinary Institute of America)'' and a copy of ``Robert Stiffler's Gardening in Southeastern Virginia and Northeastern North Carolina.''

Second place was awarded to Ann Jaskowiak of Corapeake, N.C., for her tomato conserve. Gayle Nicholas Scott of Chesapeake won third place for Dijon Tomatoes With Broccoli Stuffing. Each will receive a Four-Star Henckle tomato knife, ``Cooking Secrets of the CIA'' and ``Robert Stiffler's Gardening.''

A Henckle tomato knife will also be presented to each of six honorable mention winners. ILLUSTRATION: COLOR PHOTOS BY CANDICE C. CUSIC/The Virginian-Pilot
