NOT OBESE

Regarding the Aug. 20 front-page article about Judith Curren and Dr. Jack Kevorkian: I am neither condemning nor condoning assisted suicide. My question: When did being 260 lbs become grossly overweight.

I am 25 years old, 5'4'' and weigh 260 lbs, and I am very fit! I am overweight, especially for today's standards. But not all overweight people get tired all the time.

I get tired after I've been up all day going to school, doing homework, housework, errands, rearing a very active 5-year-old and various other wifely and motherly duties. I may not be able to be a fitness instructor or a marathon runner, but I can out-dance many people half my weight.

Obviously Judith Curren had some kind of medical problem that made her wheelchair-bound. Articles such as this give the impression that if you're over 130 lbs, you are morbidly obese and cannot function in everyday life.
