O.W. CLARKSON

O.W. ``Woody'' Clarkson, AFCM, USN (Ret.), 52, a retired master chief, departed this life on Sept. 1, 1996, after a four-year struggle with cancer.

He was a member of Calvary Assembly of God on Providence Road in Virginia Beach.

Mr. Clarkson was a native of Ottumwa, Iowa. He had resided in Virginia Beach for the last 22 years. He was the adopted son of Cleo Osteen of Franklin, Pa., and John Jessop of St. Petersburg, Fla.His biological mother was Eleanor S. Bullock of Ottumwa, Iowa. He retired after serving 28 years in the U.S. Navy. He was also retired from the Naval Air Rework Facility.

In addition to his wife, Judith, he is survived by a son, A. Christian ``Chris'' Clarkson; a daughter, S. Candice ``Candi'' James; a son-in-law, John W. James; and a granddaughter, Brittany H. Vigenski, all of Virginia Beach. He has three brothers, Johnny, David and Danny Bullock of Iowa and other family members.

A funeral service will be held at Calvary Assembly of God, 321 Providence Road, Virginia Beach, at 11 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Dan Goff, Herbert Jarvis and John James will conduct the service. Visitation will be in the chapel of Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens with full military honors. Friends and family will gather at the church social hall following the service. The family has suggested that memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society, Eastern Area Office, 2730 Ellsmere Ave., Norfolk.
