Claude James Skinner, 30, of the 1200 block of Tidewater Drive, died Aug. 29, 1995, at the home.
Born in Norfolk, Mr. Skinner was a truck driver for Paxton Company. He was a member of St. Thomas A.M.E. Zion Church, Norfolk. He was a graduate of Granby High School Class of 1984. He was a member of Granby ROTC for three years. After high school, Claude joined the U.S. Navy Reserve. After a year of service, he joined active duty and while in U.S. Navy he attended different military schools and also Commonwealth College for a year.
Survivors include his mother, Frances C. Skinner and stepfather, Charles Allen Powell; a sister, Lavern O. Skinner; a brother, Waverly L. Skinner Jr.; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Brown, Mr. and Mrs. Claude J. Brooms Sr., Mr. Jessie Overby; a nephew, Vincent E. Battin; three aunts, Vickie Brooms, Joyce Barge, Gloria Coleman; five uncles, Juan Skinner, Claude Brooms Jr., Larry Brooms, Micheal Augson, Donald Augson; a great-great uncle, Ruldoph Skinner. He was predeceased by his father, Waverly L. Skinner Sr.
A funeral will be held at noon Wednesday by the Rev. Dr. General Lee Scott, Pastor, at 1700 Melon St., Norfolk. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Garden. Hale Funeral Service is handling arrangements.
