L. Mabel Clarke, 91, formerly of Norfolk, died Thursday Aug. 29, 1996, in Lincoln Hospital, Bronx, N.Y. Miss Clarke lived in New York City for 65 years.
She was a native of Norfolk and the daughter of Robert W. Clarke Sr. and Bessie Hoffler Clarke. She was a retired electronics assembly technician. She was a member of Baptist House of Prayer, New York. Miss Clarke was a very warm and proud lady who cherished her family and heritage. She was a 50-year member of The Sons and Daughters of Norfolk.
Survivors include two nephews, W.P. Clarke Jr., Robert Clarke; god children, Irvin Kemp and Shirley Shoulders; great-niece and nephew, Sherrese Wade, W.P. Clarke III; three sisters-in-law, Florine Clarke, Elmira Williams, Catherine Clarke. She was predeceased by brothers Robert ``Smash'' Clarke, W.P. Clarke Sr., Kermit Clarke and Howard Clarke.
A funeral will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Thursday in Riddick Funeral Service by Elder William Perry. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. The viewing will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
