Police early Sunday arrested a 20-year-old man they say fired several shots at an officer a day earlier.
Police said the suspect, Robert A. Witt of the 900 block of Aspen Drive, is a felon who isn't allowed to have a gun. He was charged with trying to shoot officer Stan Reed while Reed was in a parking lot checking out a suspicious car around 10:15 p.m. Saturday.
Reed was talking with the teen-age driver of a car parked at Brandon Middle School when someone fired shots at Reed from behind a privacy fence in a nearby yard.
Police spokesman Mike Carey said the suspect fired at the officer ``for no apparent reason.''
Reed, a 42-year-old Fourth Precinct officer, wasn't hurt.
Carey said investigators found the suspect after interviewing residents living around the school. Witt is being held without bond in the city jail.
