FISH FRIGHTENED BY EDOUARD REAPPEAR FOR HOLIDAY

Fishing was slow along the Outer Banks during the weekend because of rough seas generated by the offshore passage of Hurricane Edouard. Conditions improved by Monday, and some scattered action was spotted.

Kitty Hawk Pier reported little action Saturday through Monday.

A few Spanish mackerel and bluefish were landed from the end of Avalon Pier early Saturday morning, but action didn't pick up again until late Monday, when water clarity improved and a few Spanish mackerel were again landed from the end of the pier.

Anglers on Nags Head Pier caught several small bottom fish Saturday morning, and a few nice spot late Sunday and again Monday afternoon.

An 8.5-pound black drum and a few spot were taken from Jennette's Pier early Saturday. Action was slow Sunday and Monday.

A few spot, black drum and small bluefish were caught Saturday morning on Outer Banks Pier. A few black drum and fair numbers of spot were taken Monday.

On Hatteras Island, Rodanthe Pier and Avon Pier reported little action Saturday through Monday.

Frisco Pier fishermen caught nothing during the weekend. Action improved late Monday, though, with a few keeper flounder, bluefish and some small pompano taken.

Surf fishing from Corolla to Oregon Inlet has been at a standstill recently because of rough seas. Plenty of croaker and some keeper flounder were beached Saturday, Sunday and Monday around Oregon Inlet.

Fishing along the beach from Rodanthe to Buxton has been slow.

Fishing was slow at Cape Point during the weekend, but some puppy drum, keeper flounder and a large drum were landed Monday. Lots of small croaker were taken along the beach south of Cape Point.

Spanish mackerel were landed from the surf around Hatteras Inlet late Sunday afternoon. Puppy drum, croaker, bluefish and lots of small flounder were beached in the area Monday.

Headboats around Oregon Inlet didn't fish Saturday or Sunday. Small pigfish, croaker, small sea bass and small bluefish appeared in both morning and afternoon catches Monday.

No offshore trips were run from Hatteras or Oregon Inlet during the weekend because of rough seas. The Tar Heel fished offshore from Oregon Inlet Monday, landing yellowfin tuna and dolphin.

Good blue water action should resume this week as charter boats get back into action.

The water temperature was 77 degrees Monday at the Army Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck, and 79 degrees at Frisco Pier on Hatteras Island. by CNB
