MAKING PARENTS ACCOUNTABLE

In last Friday's first section, there were two companion articles on SAT scores - one about national results, the other Virginia results.

When all is said and done, it is the parents who are ultimately responsible. They delegate authority to the educators to educate their children.

To drive this home, here's a radical change from the norms of decades: Phase out the school taxes that seniors have to pay and raise school taxes for current users of the system.

Then look at how closely these parents monitor the performance of their children.
