ROBERT W. PECK

Robert Wesley Peck, 77, died Monday, Sept. 2, 1996, at his residence. He was a lifelong resident of Newport News and Norfolk.

Mr. Peck graduated from Newport News High School and was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. army as a chief warrant officer during China Burma India campaign.

He was a member of Temple Baptist Church and was a former member of First Baptist Church. He was a 32nd degree Mason and was a Shriner. He was a member of the American Legion, was a past president of Cavalier Yacht and Country Club, a member of the James River Country Club and member of the Navy League.

Mr. Peck retired from Retail Merchants Association in Norfolk as chief executive officer after 40 years.

A tireless worker in behalf of the credit industry, he was the recipient of the Associated Credit Bureau's highest award, the International Leadership Award, twice. He was also past chairman of the Board of Associated Credit Bureaus and past chairman of Virginia Retail Merchants Association.

He was a firm believer in education, and Virginia Wesleyan College honored him by giving a four-year scholarship to a deserving student in his name.

He was preceded in death by his former wife, Frances Bookman Peck; his parents, Wesley B. Peck and Gay P. Peck; two brothers, Raymond Peck and Sidney Peck.

Survivors include his wife of 18 years, Marguerite Colonna Peck; his three children, JoAnn McGinn and her husband, Jim McGinn of Norfolk, Rodney M. Peck and his wife, Mary Ann Peck of Charlotte, N.C., Beth Parsons and her husband, Ralph Parsons, of Norfolk; a stepson, Randy Murchison and his wife, Dulcey Murchison of Richmond; a brother, Edward Peck and his wife, Eleanor Peck, of Newport News. He also leaves eight grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today in Peninsula Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home by Dr. William T. Tomlinson. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Norfolk. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 753 Thimble Shoals Blvd., Suite 2B, Newport News, Va. 23606.
