THOMAS W. TUCKER

Thomas William Tucker, 77, of Stamford, Conn., died Friday, Aug. 30, 1996, at home.

He was born Jan. 29, 1919, in Fayetteville. A resident of Stamford for the past 30 years, he received a B.A. from the University of Maryland, Eastern Shore in Education, an M.A. from the University of Bridgeport in Education (Curriculum Development) and a Ph.D. from Sussex College of Technology, England, in Sociology. He was a teacher in the Stamford Public School system for 28 years, retiring in 1993.

Thomas was a member of the Bethel A.M.E. Church of Stamford, Shining Star Lodge (NU)303 I.B.P.O.E. of W., Past Exalted Ruler, (PSP), Loyal Knight, Region I Director of Education, Col. of the Antler Guard; he was also a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., where he served as Director of Educational Activities. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army after service during World War II.

In 1942 he met and married Viola Whitehead and to this union two children were born, Thomas W. Tucker Jr. of Portsmouth, and Yvonne Tucker Murphy of Chesapeake. In addition to his children, he leaves to mourn his passing a sister, Virginia Scott of Bridgeport, Conn., and three grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Bethel A.M.E. Church, 150 Fairfield Ave., Stamford, with the Rev. Winton M. Hill III officiating. Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Bridgeport, Ct. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the church. Arrangements by Morton's Mortuary Inc., Bridgeport, Conn.
