SAMUEL J. KNIGHT SR.

Samuel Jerome ``Ronie'' Knight Sr., 54, of the 3800 block of Elliott Ave., died Aug. 30, 1996, in Maryview Hospital.

A native of Portsmouth, Mr. Knight was a pipe fitter and manager for New Gosport Housing Self-Help Store of the U.S. Government for 15 years. He was a member of Grove Baptist Church, Portsmouth, choir member, Boy Scout and Cub Scout leader at Celestial Baptist Church. He was an employee and bus driver for Tidewater Regional Transit and member of the Monday Night Mixed Bowlers. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Frances M. Knight of Portsmouth; two daughters, Patricia Knight Scales, Rynitia Newsome, both of Portsmouth; six sons, David Knight, Anthony Knight, James Knight, Percy Newsome, Jermaine Newsome, all of Portsmouth, Samuel J. Knight Jr. of Ohio; a sister, Ruby ``Dee'' Potts of Chesapeake; four brothers, Matthew Knight of Portsmouth, Willie Knight, James T. Knight-Jones, Eugene Knight, all of Hampton; seven grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Corprew Funeral Home Chapel, Portsmouth, by the Rev. Leon J. Boone and Pastor Levitt. Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery, Portsmouth, with military honors. Viewing will begin at 3 p.m. today at Corprew Funeral Home, where the family be from 5 to 6 p.m. today. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
