WILLIAM P. SMITH JR.

William Pressley Smith Jr., 77, of the 2500 block of Norris Lane, died Sept. 3, 1996, in a Norfolk hospital.

He was a native of Nansemond Co., Va., and was a retired supervisor from Shop 56, Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He was a member of Simonsdale Presbyterian Church and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Lillian J. Smith; a daughter, Katherine S. Gilbert of Prattville, Ala.; a son, William C. Smith of Portsmouth; and six grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday in Simonsdale Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Matt Matthews in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel. Burial will be in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the church or to a favorite charity of choice.
