LEO BASS

Leo Bass, 82, of the 1000 block of Luxford Lane, died Sept. 4, 1996, in a Norfolk hospital.

A native of Portsmouth, Mr. Bass was a retired credit supervisor for Barr Bros. Jewelers after 50 years of employment. Also he retired from the U.S. Air Force and the Reserves as a lieutenant colonel after 28 years of service. He was a member of Gomley Chesed Synagogue. A graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute, he was a member of Va. Tech Alumni Association of Tidewater, Chapter Class of 1935. Also he was a Master Mason in Lodge (NU)470 in Illinois for 54 years, 33rd degree Scottish Rite Mason in the Valley of Danville, Khedive Temple.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret L. Bass; a daughter, Patricia Matous of Roswell, Ga.; a son, John R. Bass of Chicago, Ill.; and seven grandchildren.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday in Gomley Chesed Cemetery by Rabbi Philip S. Krohn. The family will receive friends at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, today from 7 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Gomley Chesed Synagogue or a charity of sender's choice.
