EDWARD V. HOWELL

Edward Vaughan Howell, 32, died Sept. 3, 1996, at his home.

Born March 21, 1964, in Charlottesville, he was a son of Ambassador W. Nathaniel Howell and Margie Saunders Howell of Charlottesville. Edward accompanied his family through many countries during their years with the U.S. Foreign Service. Edward participated in the evacuation of Egypt in 1967, the evacuation of Lebanon in 1975, lived in the United Arab Emirates, Greece, Algeria and several other posts during his life.

A graduate of the University of Virginia in 1988 with a B.A. in History, Edward continued the tradition of government service as a security officer with the Central Intelligence Agency. He celebrated his heritage through his membership in the Sons of the Confederacy.

In addition to his parents, survivors include his brother, W.N. ``Chip'' Howell III and his wife, Renee, and child, Alex, all of Pasadena, Md.; his paternal grandmother, Josephine Edwards Howell of Portsmouth; maternal grandmother, Roberta Burroughs Saunders of Bedford County, Va.; many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and colleagues who will cherish his memory.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Holly Memorial Gardens with Dr. N. Keith Smith officiating. The family will greet friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday in Teague Funeral Home, Charlottesville. Memorial contributions may be made to the University Capital Campaign.
