ROBERT STANEK

Robert Stanek, 76, of the 1100 block of Orkney Dr., died Sept. 3, 1996, in his residence.

A native of Chicago, Ill. Mr. Stanek retired from the U.S. Navy as a commander after 33 years of service. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Flight School, Pensacola, Fla., in 1941. During his naval career he had served as the commanding officer of VF-152 in 1953, executive officer of Naval Air Station, Oceana, from 1961-63 and at his retirement was serving as the maintenance officer of COMFAIR Staff, Naval Air Station, Norfolk. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict.

He was a member and past master of Lynnhaven Masonic Lodge (NU)220, A.F. & A.M., Norfolk Scottish Rite Bodies and Khedive Shrine Temple. He was also a member of the Retired Officers' Association and the National Rifle Association.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy May Hunter Stanek; two daughters, Dorothy Ann Stanek Rinehart and her husband, Harry Isreal Rinehart of Viena, Md., and Robyn Rebecca Stanek Browder of Virginia Beach; a son, Robert Wesley Stanek and his wife, Donna McCollough Stanek of Virginia Beach; and four grandchildren, Cheryl Suzanne Rinehart, Anne Elizabeth Rinehart, Steven Robert Stanek and Jennifer Susan Stanek.

A funeral service will be held Friday at 7 p.m. in Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, by the Rev. Jack Miller of Ormond Beach, Fla. Masonic Rites will be accorded at the funeral home. Following the service the family will remain at the funeral home to receive friends. Burial with full military honors will be on Tuesday, Sept. 17, at 9 p.m. in Arlington National Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy take the form of donations, in Mr. Stanek's memory, to the Masonic Home of Virginia, 4115 Nine Mile Road, Richmond, Va. 23323.
