Claiborne E. Whitehead, 90, of the 2000 block of Kenlake Place, died Sept. 3, 1996, in a Norfolk hospital.
Born in Suffolk, he was a customs inspector for U.S. Customs Service and retired after 35 years. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Emily M. Whitehead; two daughters, Patricia Ann Fleming of Tennessee, Linda W. Haywood of Richmond; three sisters, Louise A. Powell of Washington, D.C., Marjorie W. Dillon of Suffolk, Virginia A. McLendon of Florida; four grandchildren, Chris and Shelby Haywood, Kerrick Ziems and Justin White; two step-grandchildren, John Fleming and Yvonne Wells; three great-grandchildren, Ryan and Christopher Ziems and Meighan Mackey.
A funeral service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends in the funeral home today from 7 to 8 p.m. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
