EVAN H. RYNER

Cmdr. Evan Hall Ryner, U.S. Navy (ret.), 78, died Sept. 3, 1996, in a Virginia Beach hospital.

Cmdr. ``Doc'' Ryner was born in Coatesville, Ind., and was a resident of Norfolk and Virginia Beach since 1963. He retired from the U.S. Navy as a naval aviator serving in World War II and with VP-9 in Korea. His additional specialities were in Meteorology and Naval Intelligence. He was a member of Nimmo United Methodist Church and a 54-year-member of Groveland Masonic Lodge. He attended CNC, Indiana State and Butler University, as well as numerous military schools.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Pauline Jones Ryner; four daughters, Jean Kirsch of Euless, Texas, Sharon Howk of Coos Bay, Oregon, Diane Pedrick of San Juan Bautista, Calif., and Tina Ryner of Virginia Beach; seven grandchildren and a sister, Lois York of Coatesville, Ind.

Interment in Arlington National Cemetery Columbarium will follow memorial service at Nimmo United Methodist Church on Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. John B. Morris officiating. A second memorial service will be held at First Christian Church in New Winchester, Ind., at 2 p.m. Sunday. The family will receive friends at the Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Neck Chapel, today from 7 to 9 p.m.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in memory of E.H. Ryner to Parkinson's Research, Department of Neurology, Box 394, UVA Health Science Center, Charlottesville, Va. 22908.
