SPOT WERE PLENTIFUL ALONG NORTHERN BEACH PIERS

Spot fishing was excellent on northern beach piers Wednesday.

On Kitty Hawk Pier lots of spot were taken throughout the day.

Avalon Pier reported spot and croaker landed during the morning and plenty of spot during the afternoon.

Anglers on Nags Head Pier caught lots of croaker during the morning and scattered spot and one croaker in the afternoon.

Croaker and big spot were taken during most of the day on Jennette's Pier.

Fishermen on Outer Banks Pier caught spot and a few sea mullet during the morning. Several striped bass were released. Good catches of small gray trout and some spot were landed later in the day.

Pier fishing was a little slower south of Oregon Inlet. Rodanthe Pier reported a few flounder, spot and puppy drum taken.

On Avon Pier only a few spot and croaker were taken due to rough seas.

Frisco Pier also reported rough, dirty waters. Anglers there caught a few small bottomfish, pompano and spadefish.

Surf fishing was a little slow along the northern beaches with a few small bottomfish taken.

Spot, croaker, small bluefish, flounder and a few gray trout were beached in the Oregon Inlet area.

A few puppy drum, small bottomfish and tailor blues were landed along the beach from Rodanthe to Buxton.

At Cape Point, puppy drum, black drum, a few spot, some nice size croaker, bluefish and Spanish mackerel were taken.

Some puppy drum, sea mullet, small bluefish and pompano were landed by surf fishermen from Frisco to False Point.

Inshore trolling around Oregon Inlet was slow. Headboats in the area also experienced slow fishing, catching only a few croaker and pigfish.

Billfishing was excellent off Oregon Inlet Wednesday. Those released included 11 white marlin by the Fish N Frenzy and nine by the Fintastic. Some good catches of dolphin also were reported. Off Hatteras, only a few charter boats fished, catching a few wahoo and dolphin.

The water temperature was 76 degrees Wednesday at the Army Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck and 79 degrees at the Frisco Pier on Hatteras Island. by CNB
