I was outraged, disappointed and disillusioned when I read that Virginia Beach was caught dumping recyclable paper at Mount Trashmore II (Metro-News, Aug. 28).
When Virginia Beach halted curbside recycling, I made up my mind that I would continue to recycle. My husband and I really care about the environment and wanted to be sure we set a good example for our child. After learning about ways to recycle in kindergarten last year, our daughter was more than eager to do her part to help.
We all came away with a good feeling of a job well done when we left the recycling drop-off center with our blue recycle bin empty. We truly felt as though we really did our part to help.
Now we, as I'm sure many others, feel cheated. How long had the dumping been going on? How long would it have gone on if they hadn't been caught?
Virginia Beach, you truly have cut us to the quick. However, we will not give up. We will continue to recycle and will do so with the knowledge that the eyes of the recyclers will be upon you.
