She was a native of Norfolk and had worked in housekeeping at Eastern Virginia Medical School for 11 years. She was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Frederick Douglas Barnes Jr.; a daughter, Michelle L. Barnes of Norfolk; three sons, Edward J. Gordon of Virginia Beach, Keith D. Barnes and Patrick D. Barnes, both of Norfolk; her mother, Rebecca Gordon of Norfolk; four grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Stephanie D. Gordon; son-in-law, Ronald L. Wilson; an aunt, Victoria Holley; and a host of other relatives and friends including cousins and sisters-in-law. She was predeceased by her father, James Hardy.
A funeral will be conducted 1:30 p.m. Monday at New Hope United Church of Christ by the Rev. James Anderson. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. Family and friends will assemble at 1539 Palmetto Street, Apt. B, in Norfolk on Monday at 12:30 p.m. for the funeral procession to the church. Metropolitan Funeral Home is in charge.
