In September, the theaters and concert halls come alive! Thousands of Hampton Roads residents are moved, energized and enriched by live arts performances. The citizens of Hampton Roads are fortunate to have the Virginia Stage Company, Virginia Symphony, Virginia Chorale and Virginia Opera and numerous arts series that feature a variety of talent from around the world.
Studies show that schoolchildren perform better academically if they study music and listen to Mozart. Music and dance are used as therapy for a variety of illnesses from depression to nurturing premature babies. Live performance is revenue-generating for area businesses! The performing arts are a dynamic part of the life of Hampton Roads.
Where is The Virginian-Pilot? With the departure of a full-time arts reporter, the community is becoming increasingly malnourished with limited feature writing about the performing arts. Readers need and deserve interesting writing that not only educates but stimulates them to share the excitement that live performance generates.
