CAREER TRACK

ACCOUNTING

Edith Weiss was promoted from supervisor to tax manager at Failes & Associates. She specializes in individual and retirement tax returns and planning, medical business consulting and litigation support.

Kathleen Kennedy and Janice Carlin were promoted to supervisors at the accounting firm. Kathy Hoffman and Kathleen Stasulis were promoted to tax supervisors. Hoffman was formerly a supervisor at Harry Jernigan and Stasulis was formerly a staff accountant with Calegari & Morris in San Francisco. Paula Williams, Angela Neeley and William R. Johnson were promoted to senior accountants.

COMMUNICATIONS

Shelley Kolb was promoted to general manager and Jon Palmer was promoted to sales manager at Atlantic Telephone Systems in Virginia Beach. Kolb was office manager for the company and Palmer was a telecommunications consultant.

HEALTH CARE

Dr. Diana Lisner has joined the Tidewater Medical Group as a pediatrician at Pediatrics At The Beach. Lisner is a graduate of the University of Virginia School of Medicine. She completed a residency in pediatrics at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Dr. Ted M. Kubicki has also joined the Tidewater Medical Group as a family practitioner at Virginia Beach Family Practice. He is a graduate of the University of Alberta Medical School in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. He completed his residency training in family medicine at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario.

A.C. ``Gus'' Miller was appointed chairman and Bruce K. Forsberg, vice chairman of the new Children's Health System Board, a recent merger of the governing boards of Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters and the hospital's parent company, Children's Health System. The new 15-member board was formed July 1 and also includes six community representatives and three doctors.

LAW

The Virginia Beach City Council appointed James B. Lonergan to a position on the Virginia Beach Erosion Commission. Lonergan is president and chief executive officer of Pender & Coward in Virginia Beach.

Donna L. Girardot was named management consultant for the law firm of J. Randy Forbes & Associates in Chesapeake. She was previously director of the Virginia Beach Division and director of regional program development for the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce.

STOCK BROKERAGE

Richard L. McMillan and Karen McAlpine were named financial consultants at Wheat First Butcher Singer in Norfolk. McMillan was previously assistant vice president of Princess Anne Bank in Virginia Beach. McAlpine was previously a law clerk with the U.S. Court of Federal Claims in Washington, D.C.

John R. Caldwell Jr. was named senior vice president-investments at Legg Mason Wood Walker in Norfolk. Prior to this, he was a senior vice president with Scott & Stringfellow Inc. and an investment broker with Wheat First Securities.

MARKETING

Linda E. Simon was named a partner in the marketing firm of Julie Starke & Associates in Virginia Beach. In this position, she will consult with area builders, developers, Realtors and other business professionals with marketing concepts and design services. Prior to this, she was the business development director with Kaufman & Canoles.

MEDIA

Carolyn Miller was appointed director, corporate communications, for International Family Entertainment in Virginia Beach. She previously worked for the National Broadcasting Co. in corporate communications as a public relations consultant in New York.
