HENRIETTA T. CHAMBLISS

Henrietta Louise Tidwell Chambliss, of the 600 block of Gardner St., died Sept. 8, 1996, in Southampton Memorial Hospital after a short illness.

She was a native of Franklin and the daughter of the late John Henry Tidwell and Helen McNair Tidwell, and the stepdaughter of the late Nelson Payne. Mrs. Chambliss was the widow of the late Roland Chambliss. She was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church, Franklin, a former member of the Women's Auxiliary, the church choir, the church custodian, along with her husband, and remained on the Usherboard until her health failed. After 25 years of service, she retired from The Raiford and Southampton Memorial Hospitals as a nurses aide.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Rolanda L. Rose, William Rose, her youngest daughter, Rhonda Chambliss-Baxter, all of Franklin; a brother, Linwood Lee Tidwell of Brooklyn, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Ronsae Rose-Gatlin, Joronda Baxter of Franklin, Billy Rose of Richmond; a great-grandchild, Reonna Rose of Franklin; a half-sister, Eula Mae Bowers of Franklin; an aunt, Mamie Britt of Chesapeake; two sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; several nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends.

The funeral service will be held Thursday at noon in New Hope Baptist Church, 1415 Rosewood Ave., Franklin, with the Rev. Anthony Goodwyn presiding. The Committal Service will be in Southview Cemetery, Franklin. The remains will be placed in the church by 11 a.m. until the funeral service. William M. Johnson & Sons Funeral Home, Inc. is charge of arrangements.
