GOOD WEATHER MEANS BETTER FISHING ALONG THE OUTER BANKS

Good weather during the weekend helped fishing along the Dare coast.

Scattered spot were taken Saturday and Sunday on Kitty Hawk Pier. Some bluefish also were landed Sunday afternoon.

Avalon Pier reported spot landed during the middle of the day Saturday and a good run of bluefish Sunday afternoon. Most of the bluefish were taken on jiggers.

A few spot, croaker and black drum were caught by anglers Saturday on Nags Head Pier. Lots of small gray trout were landed from the pier Sunday on artificial lures and cut bait.

Fishermen on Jennette's Pier caught some croaker, several black drum and small pompano Saturday. A few mullet, spot, croaker and black drum were landed Sunday morning, but fishing was slow in the afternoon.

Some nice-sized croaker, small blues and small gray trout were taken throughout the day Saturday on Outer Banks Pier, and some striped bass were hooked and released. A few small croaker, black drum, small bluefish and several sea mullet were landed Sunday.

Good catches of croaker and spot were reported from the northern beach piers Monday.

On Hatteras Island, Rodanthe Pier reported good fishing throughout the weekend. Anglers caught plenty of spot weighing as much as much as 10 ounces, and croaker weighing between one-half and three-quarter pound.

Anglers on Avon Pier caught some nice croaker, spot and a few mullet Saturday afternoon. Lots of small croaker, a few spot and some keeper gray trout were landed Sunday afternoon. One cobia was hooked but lost.

Nice croaker, small gray trout, spot, pompano, bluefish and a few keeper flounder were taken from Frisco Pier on Saturday afternoon. A few small croaker were landed Sunday morning, and plenty of croaker, scattered bluefish and some sea mullet were taken later in the day.

Scattered spot, croaker and a few sea mullet were landed from the surf on the incoming tide along the northern beaches throughout the weekend.

Croaker weighing as much as 2 pounds were landed on the north side of Oregon Inlet near the bridge Saturday and Sunday. Small bottom fish and small gray trout were taken from the south side of the inlet.

Spot and croaker were abundant in the surf from Rodanthe to Buxton during the weekend.

A few puppy drum were landed early in the morning and late in the afternoon Saturday and Sunday at Cape Point. Spot and croaker were taken regularly along the south beach.

Small and medium bluefish were beached around Hatteras Inlet on Saturday, along with some nice flounder. A few black drum, a few puppy drum and scattered bluefish were landed Sunday in the area. Some nice croaker were caught along the Frisco beach on cut bait Sunday afternoon.

Inshore trolling around Oregon Inlet was slow Sunday, with only a few bluefish taken.

A few charters fished well northeast of Oregon Inlet Sunday and found scattered white marlin in the area. About 17 of the billfish were released by a small number of boats.

Reports indicate that billfish were scattered from the triple zeroes to the Norfolk Canyon. Good catches of dolphin were reported in deep water east of the triple zeroes.

Blue water action off Hatteras was slow.

Fishing for Spanish mackerel and bluefish along Outer Banks beaches should improve as the water clears.

The water temperature was 74.5 degrees Monday at the Army Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck, an 79 degrees at Frisco Pier on Hatteras Island. by CNB
