ANDI MOOREFIELD ATHLETIC SPECIALIST FOR BOW CREEK REC CENTER

Andi Moorefield started teaching aerobics in the city's Parks and Recreation Department 19 years ago, when shoes were an option and high-impact, joint-jarring exercises the norm.

``We didn't know then,'' says Moorefield with a laugh. ``Now we're well-educated and know so much more about physiology. Now, it's a profession.''

If Moorefield looks familiar to early-risers, they may have seen her ``Winning Workout'' show on Channel 48 every weekday at 6 a.m. Now called ``A Good Fit,'' the popular show has aired for seven years. Moorefield just finished taping 10 new workouts.

``TV gives us more of an outreach,'' Moorefield says. ``I would like to make more people realize they don't have to be a fitness nut to exercise.''

During the week Moorefield can be found at the Bow Creek Recreation Center teaching classes in low- impact aerobics, body conditioning, line dancing and a special class for those with physical limitations.

Full name: Andrea Eason Moorefield.

Hometown: Norfolk.

What brought you to the Beach? Bought our first home at the Beach in 1968.

Birthdate: Jan. 13, 1946 - an official baby-boomer at the big 5-O!

Occupation: Athletic specialist for Virginia Beach Parks and Recreation/Bow Creek Center.

Nickname: Andi and ``Quick Step.''

Marital status: Widow.

Children: Two, beautiful, smart, talented daughters: Bari, 26, and Holly, 22. If I sound prejudiced it's because I am.

What is your idea of a perfect day off? Easy, relaxed day at the beach with my special man, good seafood dinner with friends and dancing to Bill Deal at Steppin' Out.

Last smart thing you did: Let a very good friend talk me into going to a charity dance where I ran into that very special man from my past.

Last dumb thing you did: Told someone to hit the unlock button on my running car - guess what? Double parked in the lieutenant governor's driveway with car locked and running for an hour and a half.

Favorite meal: Big salad, glass of wine and fresh home-cooked vegetables.

Favorite movies: ``When Harry Met Sally,'' ``Shawshank Redemption,'' ``Waterloo Bridge'' and ``Annie Get Your Gun.''

Favorite song: ``Tonite, Tonite'' by the Mello-Kings and so many more that you wouldn't have room to print.

Last book read: ``Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil'' by John Berendt.

Hobbies: Dancing, gardening, reading and travel.

Secret vice: Bailey's and popcorn.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be? I was going to say ``thinner, younger and richer,'' but it sounds so cliche that I decided that I should learn to say ``no'' more often.

Favorite restaurant: Pirate's House, Savannah, Ga.

Your favorite night on the town: Well, it sounds redundant, but I love dancing with that certain someone anytime, anywhere.

Favorite TV shows: Most news magazines: ``20/20,'' ``60 Minutes,'' ``Dateline.'' Comedies: ``Frazier,'' ``Friends'' and ``Seinfeld.'' Love that new home and garden channel, too.

Favorite sport: Aerobics (of course), walking and bicycling.

Last vacation: Savannah, Ga. and Charleston, S.C. Next: Italy and Germany.

Pets: None now. I had a Yorkie, Gidget, for 17 years and that will do.

Worst job: I've been lucky and have enjoyed all my jobs, but the best was being a mom (corny).

Of what achievements are you most proud? By now, it's probably obvious - my two daughters and being able to educate the public on the benefits of fitness and making fitness fun.

What would you like as your epitaph? Life is short, eat dessert first! ILLUSTRATION: Staff photo by D. KEVIN ELLIOTT by CNB
