CARL R. CUNNINGHAM JR.

Carl R. Cunningham Jr., 84, died Monday, Sept. 2, 1996, at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, Minn.

He was born on May 22, 1912, in Atlanta, where he married Ethel C. Seignious on July 14, 1936. He retired as a captain in the U.S. Navy, serving as the commanding officer of the U.S. Naval Station at San Juan, Puerto Rico. He was a 30-year veteran of the U.S. Navy. After his retirement, he lived in Virginia Beach before moving to the Pine Haven Nursing Home, Pine Island, in 1993.

Survivors include his son, Carl R. Cunningham III of Oronoco, Minn.; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his brother, Jack, of Atlanta; his sisters, Roberta Cunningham and Martha Hucks, both of Atlanta. He was preceded in death by his wife, who died in 1986, and a sister.

A private service will be held in Atlanta, with entombment taking place at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Virginia Beach. The family prefers memorials be made to Alzheimer's Research at the Mayo Clinic.
