Arthur Robert Horton, 87, of the N. Main St., died Sept. 10, 1996, in Roanoke Valley Nursing Home, Rich Square.
Born in Hertford County, N.C., he was a retired self-employed farmer and landscaper. Mr. Horton was a member of Union Baptist Church, Ahoskie, where he served as a deacon for many years. Also he was a member of Byrd Hunt Club.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Slaughter Horton; four daughters, Bessie H. Harrell and husband, George T., of Murfreesboro, Gray H. Pruden of Roanoke Rapids, Jane H. Daniels and husband, Reid, of Concord, Linda H. Bristow and husband, Robert L., of Ahoskie; a son, Arthur Lee Horton and wife, Sandy, of Rich Square; two sisters-in-law, Ethel S. Horton of Virginia Beach, Ruth T. Horton of Urbana, Va.; 13 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Union Baptist Church by the Rev. John Baker and Rev. Bob Rogers. Burial will be in Ahoskie Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Garrett Funeral Home, Ahoskie, and at other times at the home of Arthur Lee Horton, 406 Lee St., Rich Square. Memorial contributions can be made to Union Baptist Church or charity of choice.
