PRESIDENT TO INSPECT HURRICANE'S DAMAGE TO NORTH CAROLINA

President Clinton will fly to North Carolina on Saturday to inspect Hurricane Fran's damage to the state, the White House announced Tuesday.

North Carolina was the state hit hardest by the hurricane. More than 4,000 people in the state have requested federal help and 24 counties have been declared eligible for individual disaster assistance programs.

Fran stormed through North Carolina and several other Atlantic coast states late last week. At least 32 people died, 19 in North Carolina alone.

Clinton's itinerary for North Carolina was not yet set, said Deputy White House Press Secretary Mary Ellen Glynn.
