OCEANA AIR SHOW: In conjunction with the Virginia Beach Neptune Festival, Oceana Naval Air Station will host its 37th annual air show Sept. 21 and 22. Gates open at 9 a.m. Admission and parking are free. In addition to military flying demonstrations, there will be numerous civilian performers, 85 parked planes on display, carnival rides, band concerts, a USO troupe and food and drink. OAK HILL RELIEVED: Dock landing ship Oak Hill is scheduled to arrive at Little Creek Naval Amphibious Base at 8:30 a.m. today after completing 50 days working off Long Island, N.Y. at the TWA crash site of Flight 800. Its crew of 370 provided logistic support to Navy divers, serving as a place for them to recuperate. Also returning today are two CH-46 Sea Knight helicopters and their crews who worked aboard the Oak Hill. They are from Detachment 3 of Helicopter Combat Support Squadron Eight, scheduled to arrive about 7:30 a.m. at Hangar LF-59 of the Norfolk Naval Air Station. They recovered 4,850 pounds of wreckage, transferred numerous personnel and cargo.

MARINE CORPS REENACTMENT: Marines of the 4th Force Service Support Group, stationed at the Marine Corps Reserve Center in Newport News, will stage a re-enactment of the Korean War's Inchon Landing at 10 a.m. Saturday at Huntington Park. The two-day event also includes living history displays, a USO dinner show and memorabilia flea market. It begins at 9 a.m. Saturday and ends at 3 p.m. Sunday. PROSTATE CANCER SCREENING: The Portsmouth Naval Hospital is offering screening tests for prostate cancer, often curable if detected early in American men. Appointments will be set for Sept. 24, 25, and 26 in the Urology Clinic. The two-minute exam could mean the difference between life and death. For an appointment call 398-5235.

COMINGS & GOINGS

ARRIVING:

With the commissioning of the Cheyenne at 10 a.m. Friday, the Navy accepts into service the last Los Angeles-class attack submarine. The event takes place at Pier 12 of the Norfolk Naval Station.

DEPARTING:

The destroyer tender Shenandoah will be decommissioned in a ceremony at 9 a.m Friday at Pier 2 of the Norfolk Naval Station. The ship is the last destroyer tender in the Atlantic Fleet. It is commanded by Capt. Larry Darling. During its service the Shenandoah has had a crew of 30 officers and 1,330 enlisted personnel.

The amphibious transport dock ship Trenton has been assigned to assist the National Transportation Safety Board's search and recovery efforts at the site of of TWA Flight 800's crash off Long Island, N.Y. Trenton will relieve the dock landing ship Oak Hill, which has been at the scene since late July.

COMINGS & GOINGS

Cmdr. John Pruitt relieves Cmdr. Carl June as commanding officer of Carrier Early Warning Squadron 121 (VAW-121). Pruitt has been serving as the squadron's executive officer. June reports to the aircraft carrier George Washington as the assistant air officer.

Rear Adm. Robert Ziemer relieves Rear Adm. Robert Cole as Commander Naval Base Norfolk in a change of command ceremony at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Naval Station parade ground. Ziemer's most recent assignment was as deputy director for operations at the National Military Command Center in Washington, D.C. Cole becomes Commander Naval Shore Facilities Atlantic in Norfolk. by CNB
