Defending champion Peninsula Catholic, boosted by last year's TCIS champion Bridget Keenan, continues to be the dominant girls cross country team in the TCIS.
Last year's runner-up Norfolk Academy returns four runners, including eighth-grader Mimi Chandler, all-TCIS last season. Greenbrier Christian also has a strong base behind Stacy MacWilliams, the school record holder in the 5K.
A look around the TCIS:
ATLANTIC SHORES
Coach: Randy Nieter
Top runners: Anita Workman, Amy Vaughan, Charity Sullivan
Analysis: Sophomore Sullivan was injured last season and did not compete. Workman is a ninth-grader and Vaughan is a seventh-grader.
CATHOLIC
Coach: Ed McClendon
Key returners: Jennifer Jelig, Emily Ing
Top newcomers: Lauren Turner
Analysis: Improved depth on Catholic, but McClendon considers it a rebuilding season.
NORFOLK ACADEMY
Coach: Ken Lampert
Key returners: Mimi Chandler, Abbi Jaffe, Kathleen Toone
Top newcomers: Lauren Berger, Andrea Hollis
Analysis: With four top senior runners gone, the Bulldogs are fairly inexperienced. Chandler was all-TCIS as a seventh-grader.
NORFOLK COLLEGIATE
Coach: Barbara Mathewson/Buddy Canady
Top runners: Devon Chapman, Carolyn McKendree, Helen Stella, Rose Stella, Lindsey Miller
Analysis: A rebuilding year despite the return of five starters.

Coach: Dicky Sherill
Key returners: Stacy MacWilliams, Bridget Wright, Aimee Gibbs, Abbey Thompson
Top newcomers: Robin Heather
Analysis: A strong base of returning runners led by eighth-grader MacWilliams, a school record holder in the 5K. Eighth-grader Wright is the top 3,200 runner in track. Heather transferred from Atlantic Shores.
NORFOLK CHRISTIAN
Coach: Tom Miesse
Key returners: Laura Santacruz, Laura Watson, Christy Benson
Top newcomers: Trish Bebee, Kristin Hawley, Stacey Sullivan
Analysis: Santacruz leads a solid nucleus.
CAPE HENRY
Coach: David O'Donnell
Key returners: Sommer Moore
Analysis: Freshman Moore finished second in the TCIS meet last year as an eighth-grader and went on to run fourth in the state meet.
NANSEMOND-SUFFOLK
Coach: Tripp Hobbs
Key returners: Amanda Skillen, Agatha Lynch
Top newcomers: Courtney Halterman, Erin Adkins, Olivia Frederick, Erin Gillikin, Emily Esmaili, Alex Filer, Amanda Pyle, Tiffany Insley
Analysis: Skillen, a sophomore, and freshman Lynch lead a young but deep girls team. Hobb is trying to start a bonafide jayvee program for girls and boys to build for the future. by CNB
