PHILIP T. BROWN

Philip T. Brown, 64, a Williamsburg resident since 1984, died Sept. 11, 1996, from the effects of prostate cancer.

Born in Westfield, N.J., he obtained a B.A. degree from the College of William and Mary, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and Omicron Delta Kappa. He received an LL.B. from the University of Virginia and was a member of the Virginia State Bar. He served in the U.S. Army and was discharged as a first lieutenant. He later served as a regional attorney for the U.S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare, as a deputy assistant general counsel of that department, as chief administrative law judge for the Social Security Administration, and as an administrative law judge for that agency in Norfolk.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Janice Ferrell Brown; his son, Paul Ferrell Brown of Williamsburg; a brother, Edward G. Brown of Fairfield, Ark.; and two sisters, Barbara H. Phillips of Ely, Iowa, and Elizabeth E. Brown of Littleton, Colo.

A graveside service will be held 3 p.m. Friday in Cedar Grove Cemetery with the Rev. Margaret Kutz officiating. The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Bucktrout of Williamsburg Funeral Service.
