George M.W. Owens Jr., 86, died Sept. 11, 1996, in a Portsmouth hospital.
He was the widower of Mary Elizabeth Marshall Owens. Mr. Owens was a retired civil service employee. Also he was a member of Cradock United Methodist Church, past Sunday school president and a member of the United Methodist Men.
He is survived by two daughters, Nancy O. Cullifer and her husband, Travis, of Chesapeake and Patricia O. Anderton and her husband, Gene Holland of Summerville, S.C.; seven granddaughters, Cynthia Ranallo, Beth Gardner, Denise Didio, Amy Skiles of Portsmouth, Jeanne Parker of Germeny, Susan Cullifer of Lorton, Va., Linda Alford of Kannapolis, N.C.; a grandson, Gene H. Andert Jr. of Summerville; 14 great-grandchildren, Courtney, Julia, Erica, Mallory, Kyle, Paige, Ryan, Colby, Owen, Phillip, Chad, Nicholas, Kellum and Allison.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday by the Rev. Michael Robbins in Cradock United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Snellings Funeral Home, George Washington Highway Chapel, today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Cradock United Methodist Church. He will be missed dearly by his family and all the friends that loved him.
