Claude F. Barrett, 79, of the 1000 block of Lindale Lane, died Sept. 10, 1996, in a Norfolk hospital.
He was an inspector for the Virginia Health Department and also retired from the Navy as a chief petty officer. Born in Council Bluffs, Iowa, he was a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a U.S. Naval veteran of World War II and Korea and a member of the Fleet Reserve Association Branch 60.
Survivors include his wife, Veva A. Barrett; three sons, David Bruce Barrett of Virginia Beach, Brent Neal Barrett of Fredericksburg, Va., Harry Alan Barrett of Norfolk; a brother and sister-in-law, Vernon L. and Hazel Barrett of Largo, Fla.; six grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
A funeral will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday by Bishop Robert G. Dickerson in Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2741 Greendale Ave., Norfolk. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, from 6 to 8 p.m. today. Military honors will be accorded at the grave. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
