John Joseph Howard Jr., 72, of the 1500 block of Mill Dam Road, died Sept. 10, 1996, in his residence.
Mr. Howard was a native of Manhattan, N.Y. He was a member of Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Virginia Beach. He was a retired security officer with 17 years of service at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. He was a 30-year veteran of the Navy, serving in World War II and was a member of the Fleet Reserve.
Mr. Howard was preceded in death by a sister, Rita Louis. Survivors include two nephews, Kenneth Louis of Pittsburgh, Pa., Kevin Louis of Ohio; a niece, Jean Marie Louis of Bradenton, Fla.; and his dearest friends, the Howe family.
A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 am. Friday at Star of the Sea Catholic Church by the Rev. James Dorson. Burial will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in New York. There will be a Christian Wake service today at 7 p.m. in H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Star of the Sea Catholic Church Social Ministry.
