The Joint Legislative Commission on Governmental Operations has approved the transfer of 7.2 acres in Kitty Hawk to the State Division of Coastal Management for inclusion in the Kitty Hawk Woods Nature Preserve.
The transaction took place at the Joint Legislative Commission on Governmental Operations chaired by Sen. Marc D. Basnight, D-Dare, president pro tem of the North Carolina Senate.
``This land transfer will allow the Kitty Hawk Preserve the opportunity to expand our efforts in preserving the natural resources of our state. Preservation of our precious land is necessary so that our citizens will have places to go to experience the beauty of our natural environment,'' Basnight said.
The land transfer cost $60,000. Funding for the unimproved property comes from the United States Fish and Wildlife Service. The property was purchased from the Nature Conservancy. by CNB
