DINNER PLANNED

``Hampton Roads, Are You Ready for the 21st Century?'' will be the theme of a ``State of the Community'' dinner, 5:30 p.m. Oct. 3 in the Norfolk Airport Hilton. Deadline for reservations is Sept. 23.

The program, sponsored by the League of Women Voters of South Hampton Roads, is the first event in a three-year commitment to promote regional cooperation, said Elizabeth Thornton, a Chesapeake City Council member and chairwoman of the dinner program.

Speakers at the dinner will be:

Mark R. Kilduff, deputy director of the Virginia Economic Development Partnership, who will talk about how regional cooperation fosters economic development.

Henry Luke, a community planning consultant from Jacksonville, Fla., who will compare and constrast Hampton Roads to other regions in the Southeast.

Admiral William J. Flanagan Jr., commander in chief of the U.S. Atlantic Fleet, who will discuss how changes in the military might impact Hampton Roads.

Hampton Mayor James Eason, co-vice chairman of Hampton Roads Partnership, who will talk about efforts toward regional cooperation in Hampton Roads.

The evening's moderator will be Michael J. Barrett of Runnymede Corp.
