MADGE J. DAVIS

Madge Jones Davis, 5400 block of Tidewater Drive, died Wednesday, Sept. 11, 1996, in a local hospital.

Born in Norfolk, she was the widow of Mr. William P. Davis. Mrs. Davis was a retired employee of the City of Norfolk and retired Avon representative. She was a member of Second Calvary Baptist Church, the Missionary Society, St. Mark RZUA Church and the Deaconess Board.

Survivors include two daughters, Jean Waters and Nancy Skinner, both of Norfolk; a son, Melvin McCray of Norfolk; a sister, Mary Jones of New York City; 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren. Other survivors include a foster son, Kelvin Cherry of Fresno, Calif., a foster daughter, Thelma Parker of Norfolk; and a nephew, the Rev. James Oliver Allen of Norfolk. Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by her parents.

A funeral will be held at noon Saturday at St. Marks RZUA Church with the Rev. Ben Thomas officiating and the Rev. Geoffrey Guns delivering the eulogy. Burial will be at Hampton National Cemetery at 11 a.m. Monday Graves Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Friends may join the family at 2107 Pershing Ave. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
