Melvin A. ``Mel'' Knight Sr. of the 500 block of Glendrock Road died Sept. 13, 1996.
A native of Princess Anne County, Mr. Knight was a member of New Saint John A.M.E. Church, Virginia Beach, and Masonic Lodge Washington (NU)139 P.H.
Survivors include four daughters, Jane Williams and Arleen Holmes, both of Norfolk, Barbara Spruill of Virginia Beach, and Gabrielle Knight of Maryland; a son, Melvin Knight Jr. of Norfolk; two sisters, Julia Knight and Rosetta Cuffee, both of Norfolk; a brother, William Knight Sr. of Norfolk; a daughter-in-law, Sharon Knight; a son-in-law, Lawrence Williams; a devoted friend, Shirley Joyner; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday in the New Saint John A.M.E. Church, Virginia Beach, with the Rev. E.H. Terrell Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Garden, Norfolk. The family will receive friends at 812 Culpepper St., Berkley. Community Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel, is in charge.
