Pier fishing along the northern beaches was good Friday morning but slow in the afternoon.
Anglers on Kitty Hawk Pier caught spot, a few mullet and black drum during the morning but only a few spot in the afternoon.
Pompano, spot, pigfish and a few Spanish mackerel were taken early in the day on Avalon Pier. Two jacks were released. Afternoon fishing was slow.
A few gray trout, mullet, spot and black drum were landed from Nags Head Pier off and on throughout the day.
Jennette's Pier reported plenty of spot taken from the north side of the pier during the morning, and a few spot landed in the afternoon.
Lots of spot were landed two at a time on Outer Banks throughout the morning. A few spot were landed in the afternoon.
South of Oregon Inlet, Rodanthe Pier reported slow fishing.
Fair numbers of spot and croaker were taken during the morning on Avon Pier, but fishing was slow in the afternoon.
Fishing was slow on Frisco Pier, with only a handful of small bottom fish and gray trout landed.
Surf fishermen found good spot fishing on the rising tide at most locations along the northern beaches. Some mullet, croaker and a few flounder also appeared in catches.
Scattered bottom fish, a few flounder, bluefish and several speckled trout were landed around Oregon Inlet. Sheepshead fishing was good around the Bonner Bridge supports.
Although lots of spot were landed along the beach from Rodanthe to Buxton late Thursday afternoon, fishing was slow Friday.
Small bluefish, spot, croaker and pompano were taken at Cape Point and along the north and south beaches.
Fishing was slow in the Frisco area, with only a few bottom fish beached.
Inshore trollers caught plenty of Spanish mackerel outside Oregon Inlet. A 440-pound cobia was landed by the Sea Dragon fishing out of Pirates Cove Marina. Headboats around the inlet landed nice croaker.
White marlin fishing was good northeast of Oregon Inlet, with about 60 billfish released by the Pirates Cove and Oregon Inlet fleets. Released included eight white marlin by the Smoker and seven white marlin by the Sizzler. Limits of dolphin and scattered tuna were taken, and a few white marlin were released around the 1250 rocks.
A few wahoo, dolphin and tuna were released by the Hatteras fleet. Two sailfish were released by the Fish Wagon and a sailfish each was released by the Fin Quest and the marlin Mania.
The water temperature was 75.5 degrees Friday the the Army Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck, and 81 degrees at Frisco Pier on Hatteras Island. by CNB
