A.H. Belo, the broadcasters and publishers who own WVEC, have gone outside the corporate family to select the ABC affiliate's new news director.
He is Keith Connors, news director since 1993 at WOKR in Rochester, N.Y. Belo owns stations in Dallas, Houston, Seattle, Sacramento, Calif., New Orleans and Tulsa, Okla.
``I'm confident that Keith is the right person to maintain the journalistic standards for which WVEC is known,'' said station manager Rick Keilty in announcing the appointment Friday.
Connors, unavailable for comment Friday, did say in a prepared statement that he is ``honored and excited'' to be joining the Channel 13 family. Connors, a graduate of Ashland (Ohio) College, worked at stations in Nashville and Toledo before moving to Rochester.
In Norfolk, he succeeds David Cassidy, who has moved on to Belo's news operation in Washington. by CNB
