DRIVER KILLED IN COLLISION

A Navy man was killed Friday morning on Virginia Beach Boulevard when his Pontiac convertible collided with a private sanitation truck and overturned, pinning him inside.

Police said the accident happened about 4:45 a.m. in the 1900 block of Virginia Beach Blvd., near the Virginia Beach-Norfolk Expressway.

Police identified the victim as Stephen B. Dunton, 27, of Virginia Beach, a Navy man assigned to Oceana Naval Air Station. The truck driver, Larry Roche, 29, of Chesapeake, was not hurt.

Police closed the boulevard for about three hours. The street was reopened at 7:40 a.m.

Police said the sanitation truck was backing down a driveway and Dunton could not stop his car in time to avoid a collision. On impact, the car flipped over, trapping Dunton inside. He died at the scene.
