Sheron Joseph took what little Kellam would give him and led Ocean Lakes to a 26-13 victory Friday in the Beach District opener for both teams.
The senior running back ran for 129 yards and three touchdowns, the last coming from 25 yards out late in the game to secure the win. He also scored on runs of 4 and 6 yards.
Torrell Cherry had the Dolphins' other touchdown on a 1-yard run.
Most of the yards came on inside traps, the only successful rushing play Ocean Lakes could use to its advantage all evening.
``Kellam's a lot better than they have been and they brought up eight to stop our run,'' Dolphins coach Jim Prince said.
``We couldn't get outside or anything else. We had to pass more in a win than I think we ever have.''
Quarterback Walter Amos was 8 for 11 for 136 yards.
``They killed us with that (trap),'' Kellam's Chris Worst said.
``They beat us. But if they're in the running for a district title, then we've got a pretty good team.''
It was closer than the score indicates.
Kellam had one touchdown pass called back because of an illegal shift and had first and goal at the Ocean Lakes 4 as time expired off the clock.
The Knights scored on a 1-yard plunge by Erick Pryor in the second quarter and on a 17-yard pass from Jason McCartney to Rob Etheridge late in the fourth. by CNB
