FIVE AREA ARTISTS will be featured in the first art show organized in association with the Umoja Festival.
The exhibit, titled ``1st Umoja Art Show,'' opens today at Art Atrium, 629 High St., Portsmouth. A free, public reception is set for 3 to 5 p.m.
Exhibitors include Betty Jo Woodhouse, an award-winning Virginia Beach artist, and Norfolk mixed media artist Maizelle Brown, who curates exhibits at Art Atrium.
Also showing are Portsmouth ceramicist Robert Davis and Robert Floyd III, Art Atrium's manager. Wood sculptor Alexis Joyner of Elizabeth City, N.C., will be featured, too.
Brown said she chose artists who work with an African theme or flavor. The exhibit continues through Oct. 12. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Free admission. Call 393-1215 or 622-4390.
