IT'S SEPTEMBER, time for the parade of new products for fall home projects and winter gift-giving.
The SnakeFan will slither into home stores and departments in time for holiday shopping, according to Black & Decker, its manufacturer. The personal-size fan has a bendable stem in the style of its popular predecessor, SnakeLight, the flexible flashlight.
The fan, 3 1/2 inches in diameter, runs on two C batteries or an AC adapter for in-home uses, such as alongside the computer or stationary bike. It will retail for about $30.
ScumBuster, also from Black & Decker, is for folks who dream of a white Christmas - sparkling white bathroom tiles and fixtures, that is. The cordless small appliance has a scouring pad for cleaning tiles and sinks, a scrub brush for grout and uneven surfaces and a circular detail brush for fixtures and corners. Immersible in water, ScumBuster will retail for about $60.
Those who bumped the garage wall one too many times will appreciate the StopLite, a new vehicle positioning system for the garage from a California company called Metron Solutions. When the preset hanging wall light flashes yellow, you're close. Red means hit the brake, or you're going to hit the wall. StopLite, which sells for about $40, can be ordered by calling the manufacturer at (800) 359-1748.
First Alert is introducing a smoke detector that provides 10 years of protection without a battery change. The 10 Year Lithium Power Smoke Detector is tamper-proof so that the lithium power cells cannot be removed. A silencer button quiets the alarm if smoke from cooking sets it off. When replacement is necessary, a chirp will sound. The detector will retail for about $35 in discount, department, hardware and home stores. ILLUSTRATION: Color photos
