VONETA L. HOUSTON

Voneta Lambert Houston, 79, of the 1200 block of Kay Ave., went to be with the Lord on Sept. 13, 1996, in a Virginia Beach hospital.

After many years of helping her husband in family businesses, Mrs. Houston found great love for over 20 years in driving her school van for Butterfly Blue and Southside Academy. During her mothering years, she was an active P.T.A. member and officer at Portlock Elementary School. She actively served in the Band Parents Association at Oscar Smith High School. During her daughters' young years she taught Sunday School at Rosemont Christian Church and lead a Girl Scout Troupe for many years. Although she was unable to attend services at Rosemont Christian Church for many years due to the illness of her husband and then herself, she remained a member. Members of Rosemont Fellowship remained faithful to Mrs. Houston through her last days walking together in Spiritual Faith.

Mrs. Houston was predeceased by her loving mother, Winnie Lambert and her husband, Jimmy Houston of 43 years. Survivors include her daughters, Linda Hodges and son-in-law, Leif Hodges of Chesapeake and Lynette Sizemore and son-in-law Bob Sizemore of Charlotte, N.C.; six grandchildren, Brian White of Richmond, Sheri Casper and Karie Jordan, both of Chesapeake, Jamie White and Robert Sizemore Jr., both of Charlotte, Tina Frazier of Belmont, N.C.; six great-grandchildren; and her dear friend, Ava Blake.

A graveside service will be held at noon Monday in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Norfolk, by the Rev. Robert Harrell. The family will be at Francis A. Gay Funeral Home, South Norfolk Chapel, Chesapeake, from 4 to 5 p.m. today and at other times at the home of Linda and Leif Hodges, 1213 Kay Ave., Chesapeake. The family requests that memorial donations may be made to Rosemont Christian Church.
