With electricity restored to virtually all customers left without service by Hurricane Fran, Virginia Power has sent more than 300 workers south to help repair storm damage in the Carolina Power & Light service territory.
About 140 two-member crews, as well as foremen and support personnel, left Virginia Power offices Thursday and Friday to help CP&L restore service in their area, where tens of thousands of homes and businesses were still without electricity.
At the height of the storm Sept. 6, about 415,000 Virginia Power customers were without electricity - by far the largest outage in the company's history.
