STILL CASTING A SHADOW

The article about the U.S. Navy coming a long way since Tailhook (Sept. 7) really was sad.

I work in a place where we have few female engineers. Sometimes I wind up going to ships or shipyards with one of them, as part of the job. She involuntarily is made into an object of curiosity and inspected as if the inspector had never seen a woman. She is ogled, and comments are whispered behind her back.

To date, I have not figured out what to do about it. Reporting it is not an option.

How much money has the Navy spent on sexual harassment training? If the Navy has come a long way, it certainly does not show when my female coworker gets upset over what is happening.

No sexual harassment is taking place, by the book anyway, but you certainly would not want your wife or daughter to be in an environment like that.
