MARY R. KREAMER

Mary Beth Reynolds (Underwood) Kreamer, of 28 Wagon Trail Road, died Sunday, Sept. 15, 1996, at Highland Farms Health Care Center.

She was a daughter of the late LeRoy Ruskin and Susan Alline Boaz Reynolds. Mrs. Kreamer was born in Lawrence County, Tenn., in 1906. She attended Randolph-Macon Woman's College. In 1930 she married Cmdr. Eugene Underwood, U.S. Navy (retired), in Richmond, Va. Mrs. Kreamer taught in the Reynolds-Underwood School of Dramatic Art, first in Richmond and later in Portsmouth, where the family moved during World War II. She was active in the Richmond and Portsmouth Theater Guilds in which she acted, directed and served on the board of directors.

Mrs. Kreamer was on the staff of the Portsmouth Public Library and was head librarian at the Patients and Crews Library at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Portsmouth for 15 years.

The Underwoods moved to Black Mountain, N.C., in 1966 and became residents of Highland Farms Retirement Community in 1983. She volunteered with the Friends of the Black Mountain Public Library for 14 years and directed productions of the Thespians at Highland Farms.

Cmdr. Underwood died in 1988. In 1991 she married Capt. Walter Kreamer, U.S. Navy (retired). She was a member of St. James Episcopal Church.

She is survived by her husband, Capt. Kreamer; her daughter, Carvel Underwood Taylor of Virginia Beach; her son, Dom Reynolds Underwood of Gainsville, Fla. Along with Capt. Kreamer there are 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren who survive.

Memorial services will be conducted at noon Wednesday in St. James Episcopal Church, Black Mountain, with Father John Rice officiating. Instead of flowers, please make contributions to the St. James Episcopal Church Building Fund, 424 West Street, Black Mountain, N.C. 28711. Miller Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
