The pilot of an AV-8B Harrier jet from Cherry Point Marine Corps Air Station ejected safely Monday before the aircraft went down in Washington County, officials said.
Capt. Charles Lynk, who was on a local training mission, ejected safely before the jet from Marine Attack Squadron 231 crashed west of Roper around 4:15 p.m., military officials told television station WITN.
There was no immediate word on whether anyone on the ground was hurt or whether any ground structures were damaged.
