Two people were wounded in separate shootings over the weekend.
Kevin A. Williams, 15, of the 200 block of N. 4th St., was shot in the right hand as he and three friends walked in the 300 block of Woodruff St. about 7:30 p.m. Friday.
He was taken by Nansemond-Suffolk Rescue Squad to Obici Hospital, where he was treated and released, a hospital spokeswoman said.
The teen-agers apparently got into a verbal confrontation with Alfonzie Battle, 53, of the 400 block of Jackson St., said police spokesman Mike Simpkins. Battle fired a shot toward the youths, hitting Williams as he raised his hand in the air, Simpkins said.
Battle was arrested and charged with malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He was released from Western Tidewater Regional Jail Friday night after posting bond.
In the second shooting, Alexander L. Darden, 25, of the 900 block of Battery Ave., was shot in the right calf in a drive-by shooting Saturday about 10:30 p.m.
Darden was taken by Nansemond-Suffolk Rescue Squad to Obici Hospital, where he was in fair condition Monday afternoon, a hospital spokeswoman said.
